The Abia state governorship election, held on April 11, has been declared inconclusive.
Speaking in Umuahia on Monday, the official explained that the decision was made because the total number of registered voters in areas where elections were not held or where elections were cancelled, was higher than the margin of difference between the two leading candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party and the All Progressive Grand Alliance.Prof Benjamin Ozumba, the returning officer for Abia state, made the declaration on April 13, The Punch reports.
This comes after the INEC declared Taraba guber poll inconclusive for similar reasons: the total number of votes rejected and cancelled was more than the total vote with which the PDP’s Darius Ishaku led the runner-up Aisha Al-Hassan of the APC.
The Taraba government was forced to impose a curfew in the state from 7pm to 6am to forestall the anticipated political violence in the state.
